Great. I didn’t go to an art school or attend an art class. So I don’t know anything about watercolour brushes, paints or papers. I grew up apprehensive about watercolour painting, I did oil colour painting off and on but now discovered the beauty of watercolour painting. But still I find my watercolour pictures appear dull after finishing, the finished pictures also feel dusty to touch. I find my paper warping and bending. Without understanding a word of Japanese I can say I know a very tiny little bit about these thanks, to you. You are my guru.🙏🏽🙏🏽
This is the best lesson I've had/seen on watercolor paper! I went to an art school (for a short while) and they didn't even teach us these basics. Thank you!
I’m beginner and love what you teach. You are a great teacher! . You explain and show examples very clear and throughly . I plan to watch all your beginner series. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I love your style of teaching. You truly are a gentle soul and so knowledgeable. This was the best lesson on watercolour paper that there is. Thank you so much for your valuable time and expertise. Love and peace. Catherine
I have same pallete and watson paper like u but i can not use that, i m glad i see this video, now i begin to paint with watercolor, i hope you always healty, sensei, so i still can listen your lesson, domo arigatou gozaimasu, greet from indonesia.
Thank you for your kindness, Thank you for your generosity of spirit and talent; may you be blessed back sevenfold for such great abundance of heart ❤️... What a wonderful teacher you are 🤗... Domo arigato 🙏
Thank you sir! You are showing this old girl the right way to accomplish beauty, textured and visual interest in her attempts to create art 🎨. Bless you dear 💕
It helped a lot! Thank very much for sharing. I’ m a very beguinner in watercolor painting and your why to do and don’t explanations are brilliant! You are an owesome teacher. It’s been really a pleasure to watch your videos. Greetings from Portugal.
I had no idea about watercolor painting until I saw this video and your other videos. Your way of explanation is very clear and simple, which is comfortable for me to follow. I bought some watercolor papers after watched this video to make greeting card using watercolor paiting. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experiences through your videos Shibasaki-san 🙏🙂
I began following your channel this year. I enjoy learning your concepts and techniques! Thank you, Shibasaki! I hope to watch all of your videos. Thank you!
Very interesting, Mr. Shibasaki. After trying different kind, I think the hot pressed is the most 'difficult' paper, suitable for botanical watercolor, for detailed paintings and not too much water. The other two kinds are both good, I usually work on fine grain, not rough. But even in different brands of the same kind (cold pressed, 300gr., grain fine) of paper you can find some differences: some paper 'drink' the paint very fast, some not. My favourite are Langton Prestige and Arches.
Simo Simo hi, are there any differences between arches and langton prestiege? Which do you prefer cold press? (I used langton in rough texture and arches in cold press) nowadays I am struggling with magnani hot press, not for me 😤
@@berika2018 Hi Berika, I think that water, on Arches paper, It soaks faster than on Langton Prestige or in Fabriano Artistico cold pressed that I've just tried. So, even if I know that Arches is one of the best paper, I prefer Langton Prestige and Fabriano Artistico. Try them in single sheets, so you can see the difference. I think that paper is the most important thing in watercolor, but you must learn to know it and then understand if it is suitable for your style.
This was very helpful. I just bought some cold pressed paper to start using some watercolor pencils as a beginner. I just want to have some fun. Your paintings at the end are stunning. I especially love the apple painting. Such talent.
Yes, some things you share are subjective. I like that you are. Open subjective is honest. Domo arigato gozaimasu. From one teacher to another, I respect your ability as a teacher.
Thank you very much! I haven't explored different types of watercolor paper very much so it's amazing to see you with all sorts of brands. I normally paint on a block from strathmore but will have to try the Watson!
I am certain that you must be a fine teacher. You speak in a very patient and slow manner so that students, new to painting in watercolour, will have time to absorb your comments properly.
Your instruction are clear and simple. I love your video and have subscribed. I hope to travel my journey of painting with you. I am a real beginners so i hippie to learn slowly but surely. First question, what weight paper do you use or should i use?
I've only ever tried the Muse brand, for Manga Paper 🤔 I never opened the plastic wrap, and had it a couple of years(I forget what year, I got the paper). When I did open it, I had already used I-C and Deleter brand Manga Paper(feeling I-C was a wee bit better) 🙀 and noticed the Muse brand had quality issues, wee imperfections, in the paper itself, as if part of the pulp(wee rough brown spots). Is the Muse Watson paper, of better quality, than their Manga paper, I wonder 🤔 or does it have the odd imperfection, sometimes. I'd like to try it, yet my previous experience with the brand, may have left me with quality concerns. I've been learning to use watercolour paints, best I can, because of Showa 24 Group Shoujo Manga Artists 😸 I noticed artists like Hagio Moto, Ikeda Riyoko, and Takemiya Keiko, appear to have used watercolours. And, it felt more interesting, creatively, than my previous use of alcohol based markers. I found your videos, whilst looking up a question about the Kuretake Gansai Tambi set, I have. It was very helpful to see how they were used 😻 so, I subscribed. Recently, I seem very focussed on enthusiastic RUclips painters, around the world, that really bring out the joy in painting, and reduce stress.

This is the best lesson I've had/seen on watercolor paper! I went to an art school (for a short while) and they didn't even teach us these basics. Thank you!

I admire your work..Thank you for english subtitles and good explanations..It helps very much..Gretings from Roumania..

Thank you Master Shibasaki ! your student from Philippines :D
Thank you for the very informative video. I loved your side by side experiments to show the characteristics of different kind of papers.
Thanks for showing us glad you are back on the RUclips you’ve been very helpful particularly in painting trees

You are a good teacher, fine and detailed, easy to follow. Nice pace.
Thank you very much teacher. I have learned a lot from your lessons. Hope you and your family are well and happy.🌷

ive been struggling to find good paper - this was very helpful! thank you :)

Thank you. This was very clear and very helpful.
Oh, now i know holbein also have watercolor paper
Thanks for teaching me about watercolor - your student from Việt Nam
